TEFL Logue Table Of Contents
When I saw Sue’s beautiful and well-organized table of contents over at EFL Notebook, it struck me that as the TEFL Logue grows in useful content, it also becomes harder to navigate and, well, a bit unwieldy (this goes on my list of words which I hope to use but am not quite sure how to pronounce or spell – like “wreak havoc”). Nuo wants to get overseas to teach, and found a site that looked fantastic… But he can’t find anything about the organization other than their website. So now he’s skeptical. Do you know anything about “Travel-to-Teach”?

TimF has some basic questions… What’s it like teaching English overseas? Will his natural fear of public speaking keep him from doing well at it? If he’s fluent in Spanish, does that mean he won’t be able to get a position in Africa? So many questions… Come by to answer them!
Arnrach has decided her chances of finding work in Greece are slim to none… So she’s looking into teaching in Croatia or Turkey. If you’ve got experience in either country, she’s got some very practical …

Teaching can take many forms - Shadowfaxx wonders if there are English teaching situations available in Japan that are slightly outside the mainstream. Not everyone agrees on the answer.
Not everyone wants to commit to a full year of teaching English abroad - including alittle116 - but it seems that at the moment there are more questions than answers. Are there three-six month programs out there that still offer room and board?

Travelgirltiff is starting to think that teaching English might be a great way to get out and see the world… She’s got some basic questions - like, how do you choose where to go for your TEFL course? And how much money do you need to save? If you’ve got answers for a newbie, c’mon in and share.
Next up on Tiff’s list of questions is what company to use… If any! She’s found one called English First that looks like a good deal, but she …

Asheai is wondering if being not only young but also female will make it harder to be taken seriously or be respected - she’s thinking she wants to teach in either Japan or Korea, and asks, “Does the culture there make it a problem?”
Lost76 isn’t really looking for advice, just confirmation that she’s not alone… Is it possible to have a successful long term relationship and a career that involves lots of extended travel time?

What does it mean to be a “native English speaker?” Does it have anything to do with skin color? Iky is concerned about finding a job teaching English overseas as a British Indian. While on the surface it would appear that one’s race wouldn’t have anything to do with one’s native tongue, TedKarma says that often some employers are looking for white teachers - and preferably young, blonde and blue-eyed. Will this keep iky from finding work?
An oldie but a goodie - …
