Home » Finding A TEFL Job » Introducing Language Corps
I’m happy to introduce the first TEFL Logue sponsor, Language Corps, which offers TEFL training, job placement and assistance in a myriad of locations.
As readers may have noticed, I don’t get too concerned about being long-winded…so don’t worry, there will be further commentary on Language Corps and more on what’s cool and unique about it. I’d like to use this opportunity, though, to outline the basics and share my initial impressions.
In short, Language Corps offers TEFL training which includes teaching practice and results in an internationally recognized TEFL certificate. There is often the option of guaranteed job placement and other assistance as well. The variety of locations and course dates as well as the possibility to pay for what you want (a volunteer experience, job placement, or the training only), when and where you want it is something I see as a great advantage.
Also notable is that Language Corps makes an effort to contribute to the local community; in some countries, such as Thailand and Vietnam, the students in the teaching practice courses – who receive free instruction – are employees of local organizations such as hospitals, police stations or orphanages. There are also several volunteer options, such as those in Vietnam and Cambodia, which you do pay for but which offer an introductory TEFL course, ground support, and most of all the possibility to use your native language to impact the lives of others.
There are several teacher accounts which detail what I imagine is the full range of experiences: the awesome, the run-of-the mill, and the challenging, and Language Corps offers to put interested parties in contact with present and past participants once an application has been accepted. These teacher stories could also prove valuable to provide perspective if you’re not sure where to go. Finally, there is information for mom and dad if they get nervous.
Check back for more on Language Corps in the near future!

Unfortunately my experience as a Language Corp customer was not positive at all, nor were 8 out of 10 other Language Corp customers. Why? it is really very simple: they offer minimal service for a very expensive fee. Anyone can get the same package of extras for $400 yet they charge $4,000. At least I received an internationally-recognized certificate because, in the past, they ran all training through either TEFL International or SIT. Both of these courses are excellent. Now they offer the Language Corps certificate in many locations and, well, that is not going to get you a job in many countries.
It seems that they are trying to save even more of the money they are taking from suckers like me.
I dont know what happened with you, Dave, but I had a very positive experience with LanguageCorps. The language training, pre-departure and incountry support were all very professional and secure, and I’m very impressed with the level of caring and dedication from the staff. I also have taught in both Thailand and the States with the certificate from them, so that wasnt an issue for me. I know that there are cheaper ways to go, but LanguageCorps overall is a good service for the price by me, as well as most of the people with whom I went.
Seth, you work for Language Corps. You are being paid to say what you are saying. And you know perfectly well that many people arrive and feel cheated when they compare what they get with what they paid.
I am sorry for forcing you out but a paid employee does not have credibility at all.
Dear Dave,
Seth’s actually a student at the Harvard School of Education. You are correct, however, that he does serve as an alumnus-representative from LanguageCorps, as do many alumni. Do you know Seth personally? If so, I’m sure you realize what a great and talented guy he is.
More importantly, I am very sad to learn of your negative experience with the organization I have worked so hard to build. I wish you had contacted me while you were a participant, so that I could have personally intervened on your behalf.
I invite you to contact me directly at jed.willard@languagecorps.com, so that together we can work to make the program better in the future. Your feedback, and that of all LanguageCorps Teachers, is just what we need to continue to grow and improve.
Sincerely,
Jed
So are you telling me Seth was never an employee of Language Corps. We both know he was.
So what are the less expensive programs? I’m looking into doing something like Languagecorps but want to do it as cheaply as possible (with reliable support). Any help would be great. Thanks

The work that they are doing in places like Vietnam is very cool. Sounds like a great way to gain certification, see the world, and leave behind some knowledge in communities that could really benefit from language instruction.
